PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Under the general supervision of the Principal and Leadership team.  Tutors assist identified students in academic subjects in order to develop habits of mind and higher standards of academic achievement among students which will increase postsecondary educational options upon high school graduation.

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- Must be a current or former college student with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.
- Must have a strong Math and English background, evidenced by college transcript

 

 

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

- Interest in scaffolding student learning using questioning and collaboration techniques

- Highly organized with attention to detail

- Excellent writing skills

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills

- Ability to communicate constructively and effectively

- Ability to establish and maintain a trusting and productive working relationship with students and staff

 

OTHER INFORMATION:

-Work Type: Part-time (6-15 hours per week).

-Applicants must agree to a criminal history check prior to beginning work.

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

 

  1. Become familiar with the tutoring best practices
  2. Participate in all required trainings, professional development sessions, and meetings
  1. Assisting teachers and students in all subject areas based on the class
  2. Determine from teachers and student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be taught or retaught
  3. Facilitate student learning in a challenging, yet supportive, tutoring environment
  1. Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
  2. Become familiar with the materials in the Curriculum Libraries
  3. Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for all students to
    follow
  4. Work with students in literacy and numeracy.
  5. Communicate frequently with the coordinator/teacher/leadership team with regards to
    student progress and any areas of concern.
