PRIMARY PURPOSE

Fabricate, construct and repair woodwork and products. Maintain the district buildings, equipment and grounds.  Maintain athletic fields. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED

Valid Driver's license

Journeyman Carpenter Class 1 preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and tools used in carpentry

Operate hand and power tools

Knowledge of roof repair

Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructions

Ability to operate power driven equipment

Ability to communicate effectively

Basic knowledge and computer skills

 

Experience:

Two-Three years related experience in carpentry work/repair

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Accept and complete carpentry work orders and assignments from district facilities
  2. Plan and complete construction projects from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blue prints and work orders
  3. Select material and hardware and prepare time and materials estimates.
  4. Work with maintenance employees on other joint projects or repairs
  5. Construct, repair and install structures using carpenter hand tools, power tools and measurement equipment.
  6. Confer on the modifications and repair of district facilities and equipment.
  7. Mow and detail district grounds and maintain athletic fields
  8. Plant shrubs and vegetation.
  9. Assist with preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
  10. Assist with the inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler systems.
  11. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor
  12. Help keep vehicles, equipment and tools in safe operating conditions.
  13. Work with roofing consultant to coordinate and expedite roof replacement and repairs
  14. Able to work possible nights and weekends as needed
  15. Regular attendance; must be able to report to work at designated sites on a regular basis according to the established work schedule.
  16. All other duties as assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand tools, ladders, hydraulic lift, wheelbarrow, hand truck, drill press, electric saw, electric drills, table saw, sander and planer, operate motor vehicle

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical demands:

Lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over on a daily basis. Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/pulling, and twisting.  Climbing ladders, heavy lifting, and crawling.

 

Mental demands:

Verbal and written communication skills; perform under emergency conditions; maintain control in stressful situations; coordinate completion of work orders. 

 

Environmental factors:

Exposure to extremes of heat and cold; sunlight exposure; exposure to dusts; working around machinery with moving parts; slippery, uneven surfaces.
