SCHOOL: Campus Assigned

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide assistance to the school nurse in order to facilitate student access to needed health services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED;valid CNA or MA certification 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

CPR certification; emergency response certification; vision and hearing screening certification; Texas Education Agency paraprofessional certification preferred; Bilingual English/Spanish--Must be fluent in Spanish

Experience:

Some experience working with children

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Administer first aid.

2. Assist in care of ill students, including taking temperatures.

3. Administer glucose-monitoring tests for diabetic students.

4. Perform vision, hearing, and dental screenings.

5. Check heights and weights.

6. Check hair and scalp.

7. Assists students with personal hygiene, including changing diapers or soiled clothing as needed.

8. Administer medications after being instructed by the school nurse about dosage, side effects, etc.

9. Secure transportation for students who are ill and make home visits as needed.

10. Assist with communicable disease control.

11. Assist with health teaching.

12. Initiate health records.

13. Assist with routine record-keeping activities, including entering information on health cards.

14. Review student health records for immunization compliance and send referral notes home with students.

15. Perform secretarial duties including distributing, reviewing, and filing forms required by the school health program as well as helping to tally monthly log sheets.

16. Check supplies.

17. Assist with conferences with teachers.

18. Assist with conferences with students and parents.

19. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by principal or designee.
