PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Serve as instructor for dyslexic students and as a resource specialist to teachers   and administrators in the area of dyslexia curriculum, instruction, and staff development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

            Minimum Education/Certification:

            Bachelor's Degree

            Valid Texas teaching certificate

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

            Possess a working knowledge of dyslexia

            Understand developmental levels of children

            Possess public presentation skills

            Possess effective interpersonal skills

            Possess leadership and organizational skills

            Be resourceful, creative, objective, and flexible

 

            Minimum Experience:

            Three years of successful teaching experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Design, plan, and implement instruction to meet the individual needs of each dyslexic student.

 

 

 

            professional growth activities regarding dyslexia:

                  performance goals

                  instructional practices

 

            concerning dyslexia curriculum and instruction.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Provide student screening and testing; maintain student records for the dyslexia program.

 

  1. Prioritize time allocation to campus student needs.

 

  1. Perform demonstration lessons for classroom teachers.

 

  1. Confer with teachers and administrators regarding program growth; work jointly to develop and accomplish goals.

 

  1. Facilitate communication and alignment across campuses:

 

  1. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and parents.

 

  1. Assist in the coordination of TEKS instruction, remediation, and assessment in reference to dyslexic students.

 

  1. Report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.

 

  1. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

            Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively, (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; participate in district functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

 

           

            Physical Demands:

District wide travel; occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
