PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • Work directly with classroom teachers on the delivery of high-quality instruction targeting GT students
  • Work with building administration, district-level staff, and other instructional coaches to strengthen instruction and increase student learning
  • Support data findings and provide instructional coaching as an integral part of the instructional team
  • Possess knowledge of effective teaching practices that address differentiated instruction and digital learners
  • Serve as a liaison between campus and district staff to support and implement district instructional initiatives, provide job-embedded professional development, and accomplish specific campus/district goals
  • Work directly with small groups of students to extend, deepen, and make the learning more complex
  • Be the primary coordinator/facilitator for GT screening/assessment at assigned campuses
  • Serve as the Elementary UIL Coordinator for the assigned campus
  • Work in tandem with Director of Advanced Academics throughout the GT identification process

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with the required certification and/or required training for subject and level assigned. (GT)
  • Demonstrated competency working with GT students
  • Meets Texas Educator Equity certification requirements as adopted by State Board for Educator Certification
  • Must maintain annual GT update requirements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of nature and needs of GT students
  • Advanced knowledge of curriculum, instructional strategies, and best practices
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Classroom management
  • Professional learning delivery/facilitation
  • Knowledge in intervention strategies, differentiation of instruction, and technology integration when modeling for teachers
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and present educational data (e.g. program monitoring, documentation of intervention)
  • Skilled at working with professional peers as well as with students
  • Flexible and adaptive to the unique nature of the role

Experience:

  • At least five years of successful teaching experience working with GT students

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional:

  • Work with an individual student and/or groups of students in order to fulfill the requirements of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for each student (Including RtI, IEP, LPAC, and 504 plans for individual students)
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Plan and work cooperatively with classroom teachers to provide additional appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and academic needs of GT students assigned
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the ARD, LPAC, RtI, and/or 504 committees and recommended by research-based best practices for GT education
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of each student assigned
  • Use technology in the teaching/learning process
  • Alternative methods of instruction
  • All other duties as assigned

Student Growth & Development:

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district

Classroom Management & Organization

  • Create and support a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook while on campus or on potential field trips
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities while on campus or on potential field trips
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required

Collaboration & Communication

  • Meet regularly with individual cluster teachers and teams to collaborate and support the delivery of instruction for advanced students
  • Develop connections and build relationships with campus staff
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop lessons and refine the curriculum
  • Serve as a communication link between campus and Educational Services and Technology

Instructional Coach

  • Work in collaboration with campus administration, content specialists, Director of Advanced Academics, and others as part of the campus instructional leadership team
  • Exhibit professionalism at all times and see collaborative work as a process to derive at a solution that will aid student learning
  • Work collaboratively on an adult team possessing varied learning and teaching styles
  • Ensure the direction, goals, and objectives of the district are understood and implemented
  • Model district-supported instructional strategies/lessons based on district curriculum

Data

  • Screen and analyze data for GT identification purposes
  • Be primary coordinator and facilitator of GT screenings and assessments
  • Work collaboratively with campus leadership teams to analyze and interpret assessment data to improve instruction
  • Analyze data and facilitate discussions about student/campus/district data with campus leadership and content/grade-level teams
  • Work closely with teachers using district data to guide instruction to meet identified campus/student needs

Professional Growth and Development

  • Plan and facilitate professional learning for advanced learners to meet campus needs
  • Build campus capacity through on-site professional learning based on data analysis
  • Mentor teachers
  • Attend district meetings and professional learning
  • Continue to grow professionally
  • Provide professional development to various stakeholder groups in methods of integrating technology in the delivery of the curriculum

Technology

  • Understand the digital learner and promote/model digital learning
  • Assist in integrating technology

  • Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
  • Motion:Frequent walking and reaching, frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Lifting:Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
  • Environment:Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases)
  • Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to interact positively and proactively with students with behavioral concerns, communicate verbally and in writing, instruct and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Professional Dress:  Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent.  During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.  Visible tattoos will be covered at all times
  • School district employees may be required to work from home and use their personal electronic devices.
