PRIMARY PURPOSE:                     

 

The role of the Homebound Teacher is to provide direct academic instruction to special education students who are served at home or at hospital due to a medical condition that precludes them from attending their home campus for four or more weeks.  The homebound teacher may be asked to support an ACL classroom as needed to facilitate transition from homebound services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate that matches the content area and grade level of the assignment

AND

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments

           

Special Knowledge/Skills:

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Implement specialized instruction for students with disabilities

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior within a self-contained environment

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to ensures that accommodations, modifications and behavior intervention plans are implemented.

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to work with children with disabilities and families in their home

Computer technology skills

Willingness to learn Special Ed programming software (SuccessEd)

Understand how to interpret a student’s FIE, create a student’s PLAAFP, and goals & objectives

                                               

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience

                                               

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Provide educational experiences on each student’s instructional level that include appropriate academic and behavioral accommodations/modifications and pacing essential to the progress of students.

 

  1. Assist in gathering educational records from the previous campus of enrollment and facilitate sending records to the campus that the student will attend after the end of his/her homebound/hospitalization placement.

 

  1. Implement IEP goals and objectives in a variety of instructional environments which may include bedside instruction, home instruction and/or classroom instruction on special campuses.

 

  1. Attend ARD/IEP meetings and participate in the considerations, including the selection of accommodations/ modifications, development of goals/ objectives, determination of state assessments to be given, identification of behavior support needed, etc.

 

  1. Each grading period review and update the progress of each student on his/her IEP objectives and share with campus teacher of record.

 

  1. Participate in the administration of state assessments to students.

 

  1. Provide support to school personnel to ensure compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures in assigned schools and/or facilities.

 

  1. Conduct on-going assessment of student progress, planning and revising student instruction for mastery learning, including documentation of progress for regression/recoupment decisions needed for consideration of Extended Year Services.

 

  1. Assist with campus ACL classrooms as needed when schedule allows.

 

  1. Ability to work independently and willing to work flexible schedule.

 

  1. Willing to go into homes or hospitals to serve students.

 

  1. Communicates with campus teacher of record, parent/surrogate/hospital regularly.

 

  1. Provides accurate documentation of visits on weekly documentation log.

 

  1. Maintains documentation and a description of instructional services provided to each student on their weekly documentation logs.

 

  1. Communicates with students’ teachers and related service providers to ensure all services are provided

 

  1. Completes monthly SHARS/Medicaid on each student.

 

  1. Homebound teachers may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by their supervisors.

 

  1. Exemplifies professionalism in behavior and performance

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), utilize effective leadership and collaborative skills, maintain control and calm demeanor under stress, interpret policy, laws, procedures and data. 

     

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to utilize district approved crisis intervention procedures, in-district and out-of-district travel, occasional prolonged and irregular hours, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

School district employees may be required to work from home and use their personal electronic devices.
