PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Ride buses and assist driver to provide safe and orderly transportation of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow verbal instruction and communicate effectively
Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
Ability to work well with children
Experience:
Experience preferred but not required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist in loading and unloading of students according to their individual needs.
- Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
- Assume responsibilities for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis about student behavior while on the bus.
- Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.
- Stay current with Special Needs training.
- Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
- Help driver keep bus clean.
- Assist substitute drivers with route directions and student stop locations.
- Comply with district policy and procedure.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Duties may include driving a district vehicle to include, cars, suburban for the purposes of student transportation and other operational duties.

Wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment

Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control, ability to communicate effectively, ability to maintain effective control over groups of students.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. Moderate lifting (over 40 lbs.), bending, stooping, climbing, and turning of the head and shoulders. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts and vehicles; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
