PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Supervise and manage the school library media-center. Provide all students and faculty with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth, promote literacy and technology integration into the teaching and learning process. Provide visionary leadership in learning resources and instructional support to work with students, faculties, families and communities. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to involve the library media center in the instructional and post-secondary readiness programs of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's Degree From Accredited College or University

Valid Texas Librarian or Learning Resources Specialist Certificate/Endorsement or work experience in library sciences and Valid Texas teaching certificate, Educational technology or digital media areas from an ALA accredited graduate program preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Library Science

Strong Organizational, Communication, and Interpersonal Skills

Ability to instruct and manage student behavior

 

Experience:

Three years of experience as a classroom teacher required

Work experience in library media center in public school setting preferred but not required

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs.

 

  1. Strong service orientation with a demonstrated commitment to public and customer service.

 

  1. Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.

 

  1. Provide leadership in the integration of technology and information resources into the

 

  1. Collaborate with classroom teachers in designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction that ensures integration of literature, reference and research skills, information literacy skills, and technologies into student learning.

 

  1. Collaborate with teachers to integrate information problem-solving skills into subject areas and team teaching, as appropriate.

 

  1. Perform administrative functions necessary for the management of the library media center, such as overseeing volunteers, student aides and other library staff as applicable; attending faculty and other campus related meetings and events.

 

  1. Perform ongoing collection development and withdrawal of library materials in accordance to SMCISD policies and de-selection guidelines.

 

  1. Develops and maintains print and multimedia collections, and electronic resources which includes, but is not limited to, evaluating existing collections and online services, analyzing community needs, assessing vendors, purchasing appropriate materials and electronic resources; preparing budget requests for assigned areas of the collection; monitoring expenditures of collection development funds; and complying with purchasing policies.

 

  1. Develop a quality collection of physical and online resources and equipment based on an analysis of campus needs and available funding.

 

  1. Assists in formulating library goals and objectives for services to students and staff; collaborates on updates to the library section of the district web page; and promotes library programs and events using social media.

 

  1. Demonstrated willingness to respond to new opportunities with initiative and creative energy.

 

  1. Develop and promote a culture of innovation for future-ready programs and postsecondary readiness.

 

  1. Equip students with the information, resources, and support necessary to make decisions about post-graduation plans.

 

  1. Collaborate with other campus staff to provide opportunities for college, career, and military exploration.

 

  1. Develop and oversee library programs that drive College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) for all San Marcos High School students.

 

  1. Assist and motivate students and staff in the development of attitudes, habits, and skills leading to lifelong learning and independent and effective use of ideas and information.

 

 

  1. Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.

 

  1. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and colleagues.

 

  1. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

 

  1. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

 

  1. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.

 

  1. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library media program and implement changes based on the findings.

 

  1. Administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.

 

  1. Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school library.

  1. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of library media services to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress; climbing, stretching, frequent light lifting of books and boxes.
