JOB TITLE: Bus Monitor
WAGE/HOURSTATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Transportation

DEPT./SCHOOL: Transportation

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Ride buses and assist driver to provide safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow verbal instruction and communicate effectively
Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
Ability to work well with children

Experience:
Experience preferred but not required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Assist in loading and unloading of students with disabilities according to their individual needs.

2. Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.

3. Assume responsibilities for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

4. Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis about student behavior while on the bus.

5. Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary

6. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.

7. Help driver keep bus clean.

8. Assit substitute drivers with route directions and student stop locations.
9. Comply with district policy and procedure.

10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

EQUIPMENT USED:
Wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment.

Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control, ability to communicate effectively, ability to maintain effective control over groups of students.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts and vehicles; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
