PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Build and implement a string program for San Marcos CISD
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university (preferred)
Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Actively and energetically publicize program to recruit new string students; set goals and plan for future growth of program.
2. Integrate students from both middle school campuses to create a cohesive future high school program.
3. Plan a curriculum which incorporates beginning students with more experienced ones as necessary until instruction is available on all levels.
4.Plan and present public concerts in the schools, throughout the district and in the community at large.
5.Create a safe and positive learning environment for students in the program.
6.Plan, promote and maintain a professional and positive working relationship with middle school and high school administration and staff.
7.Work proactively and cooperatively with band and choir personnel to ensure the mutual benefit of all district music programs.
8.Provide feedback to students, parents an administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
9.Provide feedback specifically to administration regarding growth trajectory of the program.
10.Solicit and actively coordinate the efforts of parent volunteer supporters.
11.Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all orchestra equipment and advise administration of needs in a timely manner.
12.Develop and maintain an orchestra library.
13.Actively participate in professional development activities.
14.Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education.

16.Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
17.Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and the IEP.
18.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
19.Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as requested.
20.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
21.Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
22.Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
23.Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
24.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
25.Follow district and campus policy in assignment of meaningful homework, which supports curriculum goals and objectives.
26.Follow district and/or campus grading policy in the assignment of grades.
27.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise assigned instructional assistants, aides, and/or classroom volunteers.
Assist in the supervision of assigned student teachers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
Work inside and outside; prolonged standing and walking; lifting and carrying; in-district travel as assigned and occasional out-of-district travel.
