JOB TITLE: Assistant Band Director WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Head Band Director and Principal COMPENSATION PLAN: Teacher Salary Schedule plus Stipend
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist in providing students with a comprehensive instrumental music program designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop musical competencies and skills. To provide leadership and cooperation and assistance in the efficient operation of the district’s instrumental music program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university Valid Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of subjects assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: Student teaching or approved internship
Woodwind Specialist preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Provide instruction in the band program
2. Assist in coordinating the instructional process for band students in concert/beginning/jazz and pep band
3. Assist in maintaining accurate band inventory, maintenance, and general operation of all activities
4. Support all district policies regarding the welfare and education of students
5. Actively coordinate the efforts of the organization
6. Actively coordinate campus band activities with campus programs, staff, and community
7. Actively prepare students for quality participation in UIL/TMEA sponsored events
8. Actively participate in the professional development of personal teaching competencies
9. Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education
Use strategies and activities which result in: (10) Increased student performance in content area and on standardized assessments specific to the subject taught. (11) Increased student success in meeting campus performance objectives addressing each of the Academic Excellence Indicators. 12. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required. 13. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences. 14. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. 15. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned. 16. Communication and promote expectations for high level performance from students and recognize excellence in achievement. 17.Develop instructional activities which incorporate appropriate student learning styles to meet student needs. 18. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans. 19. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. 20. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, and/or volunteers. 21. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process as available and appropriate. 22. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study. 23. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing. 24. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. 25. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district. 26. Create a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students. 27. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and the IEEE. 28. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 29. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as requested. 30. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents. 31. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 32. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 33. Participate in campus and district staff development program. 34. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement. 35. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. 36. Keep informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. 37. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. 38. Follow district and campus policy in assignment of meaningful homework which supports curriculum goals and objectives. 39. Follow district and/or campus grading policy in the assignment of grades. 40. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. 41. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise assigned instructional assistants, aides, and/or classroom volunteers. Assist in the supervision of assigned student teachers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Work indoors and outdoors; prolonged standing and walking indoors and outdoors; frequent prolonged and irregular hours during the weekday and weekend; occasional heavy lifting and carrying; in-district travel assigned, occasional out-of-district travel; occasional out-of-state travel.
