PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To provide students with appropriate instruction and experiences in the ROTC program designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

           

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree

Instructor’s Certificate (Military)

Valid Texas teaching certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal   skills

Able to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to   periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions

 

Experience:

Five year experience teaching  (preferred)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Responsible for the leadership education portion of the AFJROTC curriculum including drill and ceremonies, principals of leadership and management, and communication skills.
  2. Teaches Aerospace Science particularly those areas where they have special competence.
  3. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, school board policies, and administration regulations.
  4. Administration and evaluation of tests.
  5. Provide career and performance counseling.
  6. Supervise cadet corps co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  7. Serve as Military Property Custodians responsible for equipment and uniforms.
  8. Maintains the concept of managing a military-type unit and gives full loyalty, support and cooperation the United States Air Force and the SMCISD.
  9. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  10. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  11. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and the IEP.
  12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as requested.
  14. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  15. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  16. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  17. Participate in campus and district staff development program.
  18. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  19. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  20. Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  21. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  22. Follow district and campus policy in assignment of meaningful homework, which supports curriculum goals and objectives.
  23. Follow district and/or campus grading policy in the assignment of grades.
  24. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  25. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Supervise assigned instructional assistants, aides, and/or classroom volunteers.  Assist in the supervision of assigned student teachers.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Work inside and outside; frequent  prolonged and  irregular hours; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, walking, lifting, carrying, and moving textbooks, media equipment, and other classroom equipment; frequent  district-wide and occasional out-of-district travel.
