PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Serve as instructor for dyslexic students and as a resource specialist to teachers and administrators in the area of dyslexia curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Possess a working knowledge of dyslexia
Understand developmental levels of children
Possess public presentation skills
Possess effective interpersonal skills
Possess leadership and organizational skills
Be resourceful, creative, objective, and flexible
Minimum Experience:
Three years of successful teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design, plan, and implement instruction to meet the individual needs of each dyslexic student.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of campus and district curriculum to improve student performance on AEIS indicators
- Assist teachers and administrators in the alignment and implementation of state mandated objectives;
- Assist teachers and administrators in developing timelines and assessments;
- Assist faculty with district curriculum writing.
- Assist, facilitate, and/or provide district and campus staff development and other
professional growth activities regarding dyslexia:
- Acquire training for self and others as needed to meet campus and district
performance goals
- Provide classroom demonstrations to facilitate implementation of exemplary
instructional practices
- Provide instructional management assistance for implementing new programs in the classroom
- Provide materials, resources, and information for teachers and administrators
concerning dyslexia curriculum and instruction.
- Facilitate dyslexia program implementation.
- Identify, analyze, and provide research findings applicable to instructional program needs.
- Provide information concerning campus compliance with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to dyslexia.
- Coordinate campus dyslexia programs.
- Obtain and disseminate TEA and Region XIII information regarding dyslexia.
- Provide student screening and testing; maintain student records for the dyslexia program.
- Prioritize time allocation to campus student needs.
- Perform demonstration lessons for classroom teachers.
- Confer with teachers and administrators regarding program growth; work jointly to develop and accomplish goals.
- Facilitate communication and alignment across campuses:
- Attend faculty/staff meetings
- Attend Dyslexia Advisory Committee meetings
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and parents.
- Assist in the coordination of TEKS instruction, remediation, and assessment in reference to dyslexic students.
- Report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).

District wide travel; occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
