JOB TITLE:      Transportation Electronics Technician             

 

WAGE/HOUR STATUS:    Nonexempt

 

REPORTS TO:    Associate Director of Transportation/ Training/ Safety Supervisor

 

DEPT. / SCHOOL: Maintenance/Transportation Center

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:     

 

Develop and implement safety programs to improve the level of performance of the transportation department employees. Helps plan and monitor bus drivers’ ability to operate and service district vehicles. Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from school or other designated locations. Assist Training/ Safety Supervisor in developing and maintaining a campus emergency evacuation plan

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or GED 

Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (Texas), with school bus and passenger endorsement

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Must be 21 years of age or older

Ability to operate bus

Ability to pass alcohol and drug test

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to communicate effectively

Knowledge of student discipline procedure

Acceptable driving record according to Texas Education Agency standards

Personal Computer skills desired

Knowledge of ridership software

Experience in installing hardware (cameras, tablets) on buses

Knowledge in technology areas such as video systems, transportation software and apps and GPS

 

Experience:

Experience as a certified school bus driver

Experience in planning operations preferred

Experience in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint

 

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Assist Training/Safety Supervisor in developing and maintaining campus emergence evacuation plan.

 

  1. Demonstrate thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.

 

  1. Work cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.

 

  1. Demonstrate initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision-making.

 

  1. Regular attendance. Must be willing and able to report to work to designated assigned work site on regular daily basis according to established work schedule  

 

  1. Use time productively on the job.

 

  1. Follow district policies, rules and regulations.

 

  1. Accept supervisory direction

 

  1. Demonstrate tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.

 

  1. Follow assigned route and adheres to established schedules.

 

  1. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failure; complete required reports

 

  1. Supervise students as they board and leave bus and cross street.

 

  1. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.

 

  1. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.

 

  1. Assist Safety/Training Supervisor in training new bus drivers prior to receiving their TEA certification.

 

  1. Install and maintain all transportation video equipment and radios.

 

  1.  Responsible for parking lot, building and vehicle signage/vinyl.

 

  1. Responsible for installation and maintenance of ridership system.

 

  1. Maintain inventory of electronic equipment.

 

  1. Must be able to give presentations to employees and assist drivers in the area of technology.

 

  1. Must have knowledge of global positioning systems.

 

  1. Must work closely with parents to educate, install, distribute and troubleshoot info. regarding current transportation related apps.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

 

Assist Training/Safety Supervisor in investigating all incidents and provides written reports with findings and preventative measures.

  

  

EQUIPMENT USED:

 

Operates School bus, van, or car; also operates fuel pumps, bus wash equipment, two-way radios, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, and computers.

Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions; Moderate lifting (over 40 lbs.), bending, stooping, climbing, and turning of the head and shoulders.  Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
